This Thursday, March 17  is the first of two events that are fundraisers for the Massachusetts Poetry Festival which will be held in Salem, MA on May 13 & 14.  Lloyd Schwartz,  who was a young friend of Elizabeth Bishop in the 1970s, will talk about his experiences with her poetry and prose, and read from his own poetry. Schwartz is is the winner of the 1994 Pulitzer Prize for Criticism, a regular commentator for NPR’s Fresh Air, Classical Music Editor of The Boston Phoenix, and Frederick S. Troy Professor of English at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.  This event will be held from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Salem Athenaeum. Suggested Donation $50. Sebastien Jean will present his own arrangements for guitar and piano of excerpts from two Bach suites.
