Yes, this Friday Santa will finally be arriving in Salem atop the Hawthorne Hotel around 5:30 p.m. All festivities which were planned for the event last Friday will occur this Friday, December 4. Santa and Mayor Driscoll will light the downtown tree at about 6:15 p.m. After the lighting Santa will be available in the Museum Place Mall for photos with children. Come enjoy the holiday music and festivities. The Salem High School Alumni will be providing hot chocolate on the common and the Gathering will provide caroling at both locations. It promises to be a fun evening for all.
Santa’s Arrival & Holiday Tree Lighting

Due to the bad weather Santa’s arrival in Salem has been delayed until Friday, December 4th. Festivities start at 5:30 p.m. on the Salem Common where we will be on the lookout for Santa’s arrival. Mayor Driscoll will welcome Santa to town. She will then lead Santa and elves through the Essex Street pedestrian mall to light Salem’s Holiday Tree. This lovely evergreen tree towering over 20 feet will be lit at approximately 6:15 p.m. on Essex Street, in the East India Square Fountain by the entrance of the Museum Place Mall. The event is organized by Salem Main Streets, the City of Salem and the Salem Beautification Committee.

Just one more great event downtown Salem. Salem will again be decorated beautifully for the holiday season. From a downtown holiday tree in the East India Square Fountain to evergreen wreaths, Salem is dressed for the season. To top it all over 35 downtown businesses are decorating their windows especially for the holidays. People are encouraged to come downtown starting Friday, November 27, take a look at the windows and vote at any participating business. All ballots will be entered into a holiday stocking contest. The winner of the ballot contest chosen December 11 will receive a holiday stocking filled with gifts and gift certificates. Come downtown and vote!

Join Santa Claus and Mayor Kimberley Driscoll in lighting Salem’s Holiday Tree. This lovely evergreen tree towering over 20 feet will be lit Friday, November 27 at approximately 6:15 p.m. on Essex Street, in the East India Square Fountain by the entrance of the Museum Place Mall. Enjoy holiday music, refreshments provided by the Gathering and the warm glow of the beautiful tree. It’s an event for the whole family you do not want to miss!
The event is organized by Salem Main Streets and the City of Salem. The tree is a donation of the Meeting House Church and Carpenter Tree Farm. Decorations were donated in Memory of Miss Juliette Marquis. Bill’s Auto Clinic donated their services to transport the tree from Carpenter Tree Farm in Maine. Asplundh generously volunteered to put the tree in place and the City of Salem with the assistance of the Beautification Committee decorated the tree.

Festivities start at 5:30 p.m. with music on The Common where we will be on the lookout for Santa’s arrival. Following tradition, Santa will descend from the Hawthorne Hotel (around 6:00 p.m.) and, with the help of his elves, distribute candy to the children.
Mayor Driscoll will welcome Santa to town. She will then lead Santa and elves through the Essex Street pedestrian mall to the Museum Place Mall. At the mall children can sit on Santa’s lap and share their holiday wish list and receive a candy cane. Come downtown and join this fantastic holiday tradition.
