in decorating downtown Salem for the holidays. All donations are welcome. We are fundraising to purchase live green 30″ wreaths with red ribbon for the downtown to be hung on the black lampposts. Last year we were able to hang 70 wreaths around the downtown adding to the festive atmosphere and lovely evergreen scent in the air. Please make checks payable to Salem Main Streets which is a 501c3 non-profit organization. For more information contact Jennifer at (978)744-0004 or Jennifer@salemmainstreets.org.
On November 28, at approximately 5:45 p.m., Santa Claus made his annual visit to Salem arriving on the Hawthorne Hotel roof to the applause of hundreds of on-lookers. Santa descended from the roof via the Salem Fire Department ladder truck and was greeted by Mayor Driscoll who welcomed Santa back to Salem. Music was provided by the Gathering and a fantastic new musician Nathan Mills who accompanied the process on his saxophone down Essex Street.
Downtown Salem is filled with holiday cheer and greenery – holiday wreaths, a window decorating contest and much more. Take a look!
The crowd proceeded to Derby Square to watch the Mayor and Santa Claus light the downtown Tree as part of the Salem Beautification Committee’s Tree-mendous Event. This event was assisted and supported by Salem Main Streets. The tree was donated by Nunan’s Florist & Greenhouses. The tree was decorated by ornaments collected by the No Place For Hate Committee. The project was coordinated by Shirley Walker. Entertainment at the tree lighting was provided by the Victorian Carolers through a donation by Goldberg Properties.
