Salem Main Streets is pleased to announce that SMS has been awarded a $1,000 grant by the Salem Cultural Council for the 2011 Salem Arts Festival This will enable us to continue our goal of showcasing the talents of the arts community in a free festival downtown Salem. The Festival is June 3 – 5, 2011 downtown Salem. Applications for the 2011 festival will be available soon. Salem celebrates Local Business Weekend November 26 – 28.
Parking will be free in both downtown garages and the Church Street parking lot November 26 – 28. Parking will also be free on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. “With its eclectic mix of stores and cuisine from around the world, Downtown Salem has something for everyone on your holiday list,” said Mayor Kimberley Driscoll. “Offering free parking is just one way we hope to encourage more customers to see what our local businesses have to offer.”
Destination Salem and Salem Main Streets have also organized this year’s Holiday Happenings, which include fun Holiday events starting in November. To help out harried husbands – or anyone else who has trouble coming up with gift ideas – participating downtown retailers will have wish lists that shoppers can use as guides during December 16’s “Men’s Shopping Night.”
Facebook followers of Destination Salem also have the chance to win gift certificates to local businesses by tagging themselves in Destination Salem photos as part of the Tag and Shop program.
