Salem’s Haunted Happenings has begun! Have you decided on your must-try activities or attractions yet? Fans of fright can visit a haunted house or spooky nighttime show. For those interested in learning about the Witch Trials, make a stop at a witch museum or watch the fateful events of 1692 unfold through films or interactive theater. For parents and children, we now have more family-friendly activities than ever before! If you like the paranormal, follow a guide on a ghost tour through Salem’s spookiest spots – don’t forget your camera! Looking for a fun evening? Support the arts and grab a costume or come as you are to the Salem Arts Association’s 2nd Annual Salem Arts History Ball at Old Town Hall on October 15th. Like bikes? The 23rd Annual Motorcycle Run, an MDA fundraiser, goes through Salem around 2:30-3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 16th. Fans of running can sign up for the 6.66 mile Devil’s Chase run. One thing you can’t do in Salem? Get bored!

Celebrate the art, beauty and business of writing at the Salem Literary Festival Friday – Sunday downtown Salem. There will be over 50 talented authors, bloggers, booksellers, editors, news-anchors, playwrights, professors, poets, publicists, publishers and storytellers at the 4th annual festival. The festival kicks off Sept. 23 in Rockafella’s Colonial Hall, 227 Essex Street with hors d’oeuvres, cash bar and a reading by Erin Morgenstern author of The Night Circus. The festival continues on Saturday with a Scrabble Tournament, a Literary Agent Panel, workshops and more. The festival continues Sunday with a full day of activities ending with an Open Mic at Gulu-Gulu. For full details visit www.salemlitfest.com.

Thank you to everyone who braved the gray and eventually rainy weather to make Salem’s Ice Scream Bowl Tuesday night a success. Salem Main Streets greatly appreciates the kind donation and assistance of Ben & Jerry’s, Captain Dusty’s, Cherry Farm Creamery, Crosby’s Market, DownRiver Ice Cream, Hobbs, Maria’s Sweet Somethings, Mix 104.1, Rita’s, Salem Chamber of Commerce, Seaport Cafe, Scoops, numerous volunteers, intern Joao Goncalves and the City of Salem. Over 1,200 people attended the ice cream event making it a successful fundraising event for Salem Main Streets.  There were many delicious samples of different types of ice cream, face painting and music by DJ Doug. Opening this weekend, July 30th, Peabody Essex Museum presents Painting The American Vision.

Stop by the PEM this weekend and check out the 45 gorgeous magnificient natural landscapes paintings. The exhibit includes works by Thomas Cole Frederick Church and Asher Brown Durand, known as artists of the Hudson River Schoo. Admission to the museum and this exhibit is free for Salem Residents.
