For people who may have been away, the question we’ve been hearing is, “what happened to that cute little bath product store called Scrub. Used to be on Essex.”

It’s still here. As are “sister” stores The Beehive and Roost, located at 40 Front St.

Co-owner Jamie Metsch explains, “we had an opportunity to create a convenient, one-stop shopping location on Front street. Having all the stores behind one door makes it easier for our customers to get all their home, bath, baby, gifts and cards at the same time.”

He adds, “the Beehive and Scrub were originally offshoots of Roost. Cards and bath products have always been, and continue to be categories we carry on Front street, so it was easy to integrate Scrub back into its original home.”

Described as urban country design, it is an experience as you walk through the store to see an original mix of art, furniture, gifts, accessories, lighting, jewelry & bath products.

Roost

Roost is about an experience … an experience, that we hope, makes you feel like you’ve just discovered a place that is comfortable, unique, and so cute that you want to live in our store,” Metsch explains.

“So rather than our identity being tied to a specific type of product, we’re always changing things up. It’s not only fun and exciting for us to keep things fresh, it’s exciting for our customers to be part of the adventure and see what we’ll have next week.”

You can follow Roost/Beehive/Scrub on Facebook  and Twitter.

In any language, that dark, sweet, guilty pleasure evokes smiles from young and old alike. Especially on Valentine’s Day. And very much so during our Salem’ s So Sweet Festival, Feb. 8-14.

For our opening night kick-off on Feb. 8, we are still soliciting restaurant, ice cream shop and wine store participants that would benefit from showcasing their special menu  offerings of chocolate – be it cake, pie or chocolate covered items, or a special wine.

Salem’s So Sweet is in its 11th year and there has always been a full house of chocolate lovers on hand to sample table after table of sweets. And with all the recent news indicating that dark chocolate and red wine can be part of a heart-healthy diet, we expect another sold out night.

If you have a business in Salem which offers chocolate-related items, give us a call at 978-744-0004 x 15. We would love to have you join the party.

Closing out the old year and looking forward to the new one has a particularly poignant edge to it this year. Jennifer Bell, the energy, the driving force, the face of Salem MainStreets will not be here to guide us as manager. Just as we are all moving into a new year, she is moving into another position. We wish you well Jennifer; we will miss you.

As we look ahead to someone else sitting in the manager’s chair, answering the phone and reading the e-mails, make no mistake, there are still activities to tell you about.

There are parties aplenty for New Year’s Eve.

First Friday closes out the week.

Now you see it, now you don’t as the Witches Cottage magically changes its name and its look.

And before you know it, February will be here, bringing the Salem So Sweet festival complete with chocolates, ice sculptures and window contests.

Please keep up with this blog, the calendar, our Twitter account, Facebook page and Pinterest boards for news about products, services, businesses and people in the downtown district of Salem Ma.

Cultivation of friendships, partnerships, and relationships have been a by-product of this year’s Salem Winter Farmers’ Market where hundreds of customers have looked at, touched, smelled, tasted and even heard the full menu of alternate market choices. But, Dec. 20th is the season finale.

If you’ve never been to a Farmers’ Market, they are lively gathering spaces that involve a wide diversity of food items from produce to cheese to cookies and more. The most important criteria are that goods be locally produced and that vendors sell their own products.

They serve not just as a place for farmers to get the best price and consumers to get the best products, but as venues for producers and consumers of food to come together and exchange information.

For you, the customer, the Farmers’ Market provides unfettered access to the people who supply you these foods and services. “When did you pick that? What fertilizer do you use? Have you ever considered this variety of item?”
