Joe Pino, trumpet and flugelhorn, started playing trumpet at the age of ten. In Joe’s senior year of high school, he won an outstanding soloist award from a jazz competition in New York City. Come see Joe Pino– Bebop, latin jazz, & standards play Saturday, June 2nd at 4 p.m. at the East India Fountain Stage!

If you are interested in multimedia art, come see Neophyte Capsule, the work of Glenn Church. Glenn utilizes scale model making, film, lighting, graphic design and sound to create total and immersible psychological experience. His unique multimedia experience will be shown at Gulu Gulu Cafe Sunday June 3 at 5 p.m.

The Salem Arts Festival June 1 – 3 is a wonderful blending of the arts in a free community festival. Below are just a couple of artists involved in the festival. For a full list of artists or schedule of events visit www.salemartsfestival.com.

The work of Nahant native, Karen Hallion, will be displayed in the juried art exhibit located at Old Town Hall during Salem’s 4th annual Arts Festival. Karen blends acrylic, pencil and photoshop techniques to produce her eye catching and original works.

You can catch Big Blue Octopus Sunday, June 3rd at 3 p.m. at the East India Fountain Stage performing their musical mix of psychedelic saxophone, improvised drumming, rich guitar chords and harmonized vocals.

June 1st through June 3rd, the 4th annual Salem Arts Festival will be in full swing. Come to this entirely FREE event hosted by Salem Main Streets. The opening reception is Friday evening. Located in Old Town Hall from 5 – 7 p.m. you can enjoy a juried art exhibit and live music and dance. On Saturday check out the juried street fair located on the Essex Street Pedestrian Mall near Old Town Hall and Collaborative Abstract Expressionism located next to Gulu Gulu in Lappin Park. Old Town Hall will continue to host the art exhibit and even more live comedy, music and performances. And if that isn’t enough, there will be live music, hoopdance and bellydance performances all afternoon on the East India Fountain Stage. Then on Sunday catch even more performances on the East India Fountain Stage from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and join a human chess game in Derby Square at noon. Wrap up the weekend at the Gulu Gulu Café starting at 5 p.m. with music, poetry, film and a Wrap Party. Saturday, May 26 the Psychedelic Furs will be performing in Salem at 7:00 p.m.

The Psychedelic Furs will be performing at the Salem Performing Arts at The Catholic Center on St. Peter’s Street in historic Salem , MA. A portion of the proceeds will be going to Salem Children’s Charity which provides emergency funds and basic needs for children in the Salem school system.  The 5th Annual Living Green & Renewable Energy Fair will take place in and around Old Town Hall in historic downtown Salem on Saturday, May 19 from 10 am – 3 pm. The event is organized by the Salem Chamber of Commerce and the City of Salem Renewable Energy Task Force.

The Fair will bring together green industry professionals and consumers from the Greater Boston & North Shore regions to discuss products, services and information that encourage healthier, more sustainable consumption and lifestyles for businesses and families. The City of Salem Beautification Committee will host their 5th Annual Plant Sale fundraiser where fairgoers can purchase a wide assortment of home-grown perennials, a variety of annuals and a selection of hanging baskets. The plant sale will be held outside on Derby Square, directly in front of Old Town Hall. The Fair will also feature the 2nd Annual Salem Seed Exchange, an ethical electronics recycling event, a free screening of a “green” themed film at Cinema Salem, and other fun activities for the family.
