Just in case you were planning the usual post-Thanksgiving outing to see Santa Claus arrive in downtown Salem the news from the North Pole is a December 3rd arrival. He is expected to arrive on the roof of the Hawthorne Hotel at 5:30 p.m. to be assisted by the Salem Fire Company with their ladder truck. Then, Mayor Kimberley Driscoll will greet Santa Claus and lead everyone to the Museum Place Mall where children can sit on Santa’s lap and share their wish lists. Don’t miss out on this truly Salem tradition!
Another great event is the downtown tree lighting. There will be a tree lighting the day after Thanksgiving, on Friday, November 26 at 6:00 p.m. in Lappin Park at the corner of Essex and Washington Street. This is a new location for the large downtown tree which will be lit by Mayor Kimberley Driscoll. The tree lighting is made possible by Salem Main Streets, Cicoria Tree Service, the Meeting House Church, Benjamin Nutter Architect, LLC, Bill’s Auto Body, the City of Salem Department of Public Works, and numerous downtown businesses and volunteers. Music will be provided by Gulu-Gulu Cafe. For those of you who enjoy seeing a tree put up and decorated stop downtown Tuesday, November 23 in the morning.
