The Peabody Essex Museum exhibit “Golden: Dutch & Flemish Masterworks” February 26 – June 19, 2011 is an exhibit of the private collection of Rose-Marie and Eijk Van Otterloo, “one of the world’s best private collections of 17th-century Dutch and Flemish paintings”, which has never before been seen together. It offers a rare glimpse into the Golden Age of Dutch art. From a beautiful bouquet of flowers to an ordinary meal the subjects of the paintings show an idealized often allegorical glimpse of everyday Dutch life. The exhibit includes an early Rembrandt and works by other well known masters such as Frans Hals. There are also period furniture pieces and scenic nautical paintings as well. It is lovely to view the works and benefit from the knowledgeable curators’ insights on this collection. Don’t miss this rare opportunity downtown Salem! For more information visit http://www.pem.org
