You are invited to The Salem Arts Festival Kick-Off Celebration Reception – Friday, June 5 in Old Town Hall between Essex and Front Streets starting at 5:30 p.m.

View exceptional art work by local artists while enjoying performances by local musicians and dancers. From jazz music to modern dance to opera this is one kick-off celebration you won’t want to miss.

The Salem Arts Festival is family friendly and will showcase talented, top rate singers, musicians, dancers and artists, in an interactive environment; a juried art exhibition, a talent show, open mike poetry readings, and activities for children as part of music, dance and art presentations.

5:30 – 7 p.m. SAF Opening ReceptionJuried Art Exhibition on first Floor of OTH including work by Matthew Altieri, Phillis Beinart, Andrew Carr, Pat Collins, Ellen Hardy, Elija Heward, Oana Lauric, John Plunkett, Janee Rudolph, Racket Shreve, Loretta Spinelli, Cathy Stacey and Joe Victory.
Arc Works Exhibition on 2nd Floor Old Town Hall and Presidential Inauguration 2009 Photos – First Class Petty Officer Mark O’Donald will exhibit his photographs from his assignment as a photojournalist with the navy reserves covering President Obama’s Inauguration.

5:30 – 7 p.m. East West Trio, Jazz, Funk & Blues

7:00 p.m. Accumulation Dance, Contemporary Modern Dance

8:00 p.m. Rebecca Hains, soprano singing Gilbert & Sullivan arias.

Visit www.salemfarmersmarket.org to see the newly launched Salem Main Streets’ Farmers’ Market website. The Salem Farmers’ Market will be opening Thursday, June 25 at 4 p.m. and run through October 29 in historic Derby Square (in front of Old Town Hall on Front Street). The market hours are 4 – 7 p.m.

The Salem Farmers’ Market’s goal is to meet the needs of the local community for fresh local produce at a convenient location, create a weekly event that adds to the vibrant atmosphere of the downtown and support local small family farmers by providing a direct market for their produce and goods. An Egg Hunt for the whole family…Saturday, April 11 downtown Salem at participating stores.
Pick up your Golden Ticket as part of the Golden Egg Hunt and have it validated at 8 businesses and turn it in by the end of the day April 11, 2009. You will be entered in a contest to win $100 and a fantastic gift basket which includes items ranging from a leather wallet to chocolates.

While you are downtown you might see the Easter Bunny hopping about Saturday from 2 – 3. You can visit the Easter Bunny in the Museum Place Mall from 12 – 2.

Participating stores will be serving refreshments.

Looking to get out of the house and have some fun…join Salem Main Streets on April 11th for the first annual Salem Golden Egg Hunt & Open House for a chance to win a Gift basket and a $100 bill.

Participating merchants will hand out Golden(raffle) Tickets the week leading up to April 11th to the “egg hunters” who spot a golden egg in the store’s window. No purchase is necessary just have your ticket validated at 8 participating stores and turn in your ticket at a participating business or the Salem Chamber of Commerce by close of business April 11.

Many of these businesses will also have special on-going events to entertain, entice and thank customers for their patronage. For example, Pamplemousse will be holding a wine tasting, Penelope’s Pet Boutique is hosting the 3rd annual Easter Biscuit Hunt from 12 – 3, Rose Medallion Tea Room will have free brownies, Rita’s will have free samples, Signatures is offering 20% off all full priced clothing and delicious desserts, Goddess Treasure Chest will be offering $5 off readings, Rouge Cosmetics will be serving brownies, stop by Laura Lanes for an Easter goodie, Coons and Thai Place will have candy and sweets and Maria’s Sweet Somethings will have visits by the Easter Bunny, a jelly bean counting contest and much more.

You can visit the Easter Bunny from noon to 2 p.m. at the Museum Place Mall on April 11th. Afterward, from 2-3 p.m. the bunny can be spotted meeting and greeting people throughout downtown Salem. Vintage photography will be offering photos with the Easter Bunny for a fee.

Refreshments will also be available that day at these participating stores: Bewitched in Salem, Coons, Crunchy Granola Baby, Goddess’ Treasure Chest, Laura Lanes, Lotus Gifts, Marias Sweet Somethings, Pamplemousse, Penelope’s, Picklepot, Red Lion, Rita’s, Rose Medallion, Rouge Cosmetics, Samantha’s Costumes, Signatures, Thai Place, Treasures Over time, Trolley Depot, Turtle alley, Vintage Photography, Witch city Ink, Witch Tees, and Witch’s Hide.
