The First Annual North Shore Pride Parade and Festival takes place today Downtown Salem. The parade begins at Riley Plaza at noon and follows Derby Street to Hawthorne Blvd ending at the Common where there will be programed events and vendors. Free music this weekend: On Saturday, Andrew Harney Blues Haven, will be performing a free concert on outdoors at Pickering Wharf starting at noon. On Sunday in the Peabody Street Park (a short walk behind Wendy’s) there will be a free concert by Gumbo Diablo from 3 – 6 p.m. as part of the City of Salem Sunday Concert Series.
The annual North Shore Medical Center Cancer Walk / Run is this Sunday, June 23. It has raised more than $17 million and attracts thousands each year. For more information, visit nsmcgiving.partners.org.
Also, this weekend the Salem Theatre Company will present L’illusion des Femmes – “a showcase in malevolent allure” on Fridays & Saturday. The Peabody Essex Museum, Ansel Adams: At the Water’s Edge is open and this weekend marks the opening of Pioneeer Village a short ride from the downtown and there is free admissions for Salem residents all weekend.
Don’t let the heat keep you away from week two of the Salem Farmers’ Market on Thursday, June 21 from 3 – 7 in Derby Square on Front Street. Last week over 4,000 people attended the opening day enjoying items from strawberries to lettuce, mushrooms to fresh bread and much more. This week there will be a cooking demonstration by Tim Haigh at 3:30 and music by Delvis from 5 – 7 p.m. The market sponsor of the week is Next Step Living. Celebrate Flag Day at the Salem Farmers’ Market
Thursday, June 14 is Opening Day of the 4th Season of the Salem Farmers’ Market. This year the market has a dozen new vendors and is bigger and better than ever. The market opens in Derby Square on Front Street at 3 p.m. with the ringing of the market bell by State Representative John Keenan. There will be a cooking demonstration at 3:30 by Chef Tony Bettencourt from 62 Restaurant and Wine Bar and music by Qwill at 5. The market closes at 7 p.m. Thursday is also Flag Day and the market will be celebrating Flag Day by distributing flags (limited number available). The market weekly sponsor is Salem Patch.
