Wishing you a very Happy Thanksgiving from Salem Main Streets!

Salem Holiday Happenings 2011 kicks off Friday, November 25! On Friday, get the whole family into the holiday spirit and join us in Lappin Park (at Essex and Washington St.) at 6:00 pm for the Annual Holiday Tree Lighting, a much-anticipated Salem tradition! From 6:00 – 7:00 p.m., sing along to your favorite holiday music performed by members of the talented, Paul Madore Chorale. Free hot chocolate will be provided by Gulu-Gulu Café. Mayor Driscoll will light the city’s 25-foot Holiday Tree at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Interested in participating in Black Friday but don’t want the chaos that comes with shopping at the big chain stores? Come to downtown Salem! With a wide variety of shops and restaurants, you’ll be able to check off items on your gift list for everyone in the family without the hassle of driving around a parking lot 20 times to no avail, or battling long store lines.

Get your pies, squash, apples,   organic butter, fruit spread, vegan cookies, local cheese, When Pigs Fly Bread, brussel sprouts, lobster and other items for the perfect Thanksgiving Feast!

On Tuesday, November 22 the Salem Winter Farmers’ market will be held from 2 – 6 p.m. in the four buildings on Artists’ Row. We are holding the market on Tuesday instead of on the usual Thursday due to Thanksgiving. Support local farmers and local businesses when you do your holiday shopping. This week at the Salem Farmers’ Market delicious breads, organic butters, cheeses, cauliflower, squash, brussel sprouts, lobster, spreadable fruit, oyster mushrooms and much more. If you missed the market reopening last week due to the rain be sure to stop by this week. The market is open from 2 – 6 p.m. in the artists row buildings. There will be a limited number of free tote bags provided by market sponsor Salem 5 bank. Music by Damon Gorham. Warm up with a cup of coffee or hot chocolate and enjoy browsing at the market. Looking for a great excuse to go out to eat in Salem? Many Downtown Salem restaurants have been showcasing selections from their menu for the Salem Chamber of Commerce’s Restaurant Weeks. Due to popular demand there are two weeks (Nov. 6 – 10 and Nov. 13 – 17). There is still time to make your reservations.  The cost is $25 per person for a three course meal.  Some restaurants offer a $15 option.

Winter Market Fundraiser Monday!

A limited number of tickets are still available for the Winter Market Fundraiser at 62 Restaurant and Wine Bar. Don’t miss this exciting and eventful night out in support of the new market!

On Monday, November 7th, join Salem Main Streets at 62 Restaurant and Wine Bar from 5 – 8 p.m. for delicious food, music by Qwill all to support a good cause. Partake in a variety of raffles to win fabulous prizes from local businesses!

You could be the lucky winner of gift cards and certificates to businesses such as Rouge Cosmetics, A&J King Artisan Bakers, New England Soup Factory, Salem Wine Imports, Organic Garden and the Publick House Historic Inn & Country Lodge as well as items from Salem Cycle and more.  

We will also be revealing, for the first time,  the list of Winter Market vendors. Come learn about the exciting new vendors joining our market as well as which of your favorites will continue to offer your favorite treats.

Tickets for the fundraiser are currently on sale for $20 at the Salem Chamber of Commerce office, located at 265 Essex Street. They can also be purchased by contacting Salem Main Streets at SFM@salemmainstreets.org or (978) 744-0004. If tickets are still available they will be on sale at the door the night of the fundraiser for $25.
