Head to Salem this weekend for an exciting 2-day Halloween Celebration!  The Haunted Happenings Main Stage will be set up October 30 and 31 on Washington Street with music starting at 4 p.m.  Radio 92.9 presents headlining band Ernie and the Automatics on Saturday night.  The winners of Radio 92.9’s Battle of the Bands will play Halloween night followed by a fireworks finale over the North River at 10:15 p.m.  Listen to live music and enjoy the sites as thousands walk the streets in outrageous costumes!  Don’t forget to leave your broomstick behind and take the train in to avoid those traffic jams and parking woes, as the Salem MBTA Station parking lot will be closed all day Sunday.  Visit www.hauntedhappenings.org for more information, and see below for the band schedule:

Downtown Salem is seeing incredible growth and development. Over 70  new businesses have opened since the SMS program was reactivated in Salem in July 2007.  Just this year 226 new jobs were added in

downtown Salem by 9 new restaurants and 16 new shops.

The new businesses: Adriatic Restaurant and Bar, The Beehive, Café Polonia, Café Valverde, Comida Mexican Taqueria, Coven, Custom House Rotisserie, Elemental Design, Frankenstein’s Art, The Great Escape, Green Land Café, Hip Baby Gear, Howling Wolf Taqueria, Lightshed Photography Studio, Mighty Aphrodite, Milk & Honey, Mud Puddle Toys, Omen: Psychic Parlor & Witchcraft Emporium, Sankofa Massage & Bodywork, Seaport

Café, Sweet Anthem, Two Girls Shop, The Urbane Cyclist, Witch Tees and World of Witches Museum all opened their doors in 2010 creating 226 new positions.

Thursday is the last Farmers’ Market of the season. This is your last chance to buy fresh local fruits, vegetables, and baked goods at the market. Come to Derby Square from 3 – 7 and enjoy Harvest Fest at the Salem Farmers’ Market. There will be a market full of fun for all ages.  The first 100 children will receive a free small pumpkin. Enjoy a dance performance of Thriller by Dance Etc. at 6 p.m. There will also be a children’s costume contest and music for children. Salem is the place to be in October. The downtown was bustling again today with people shopping, dining and of course in costume. From parade’s to pumpkin decorating contest Salem was filled with activity. Attend one of the numerous October balls. Dine in one of Salem’s over 60 restaurants.
