This free event runs the length of Essex St., from the Daniel Low Building to the Hawthorne Hotel.

Bring your friends and family to this street festival to browse through jewelry, crafts, paintings, and other unique items! Face painters and musicians will be strolling around to entertain the crowd.

Tonight on the Salem Common don’t miss Salem’s Ice Scream Bowl from 6 – 7:30 p.m.  (Tuesday August 7th )

This year you will be able to taste ice cream from Cherry Farm Creamery, Hobbs Ice Cream, Treadwell’s Ice Cream, Maria’s Sweet Somethings, Down River Ice Cream, Ben & Jerry’s, Rita’s Italian Ice. Mix 104.1 Ice Cream Truck (Turkey Hill Ice Cream) and Treadwell’s!

There will also be free facepainting for kids and music by DJ Doug. The festivities begin at 6 p.m. on the Salem Common and end at 7:30 p.m. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children, spoons and napkins will be supplied. Proceeds benefit Salem Main Streets.

Enjoy fresh vegetables, bread, lobster, organic butter, cheese and much more at the market Thursday from 3 – 7 p.m. in Derby Square on Front Street. The Market will host the musical talents of Simon Linn-Gerstein and Lily from 5 – 7 p.m. There will be a cooking demonstration at 3:30 by Life Alive Cafe.  Don’t forget to make your way down to Artists Row where you will find jewlery, crafts, spinning demonstrations and more. Celebrate Flag Day at the Salem Farmers’ Market

Thursday, June 14 is Opening Day of the 4th Season of the Salem Farmers’ Market. This year the market has a dozen new vendors and is bigger and better than ever. The market opens in Derby Square on Front Street at 3 p.m. with the ringing of the market bell by State Representative John Keenan. There will be a cooking demonstration at 3:30 by Chef Tony Bettencourt from 62 Restaurant and Wine Bar and music by Qwill at 5. The market closes at 7 p.m. Thursday is also Flag Day and the market will be celebrating Flag Day by distributing flags (limited number available). Opening day of the 4th annual Salem Arts Festival is upon us! Friday, June 1st from 5 – 7 p.m. come to the opening reception in Old Town Hall and enjoy free refreshments and a juried art exhibit of 20 local artists. Live music and dance performances start 5 p.m. Solo guitarist Brian Rolland starts off the evening with a blend of Jazz and Latin music. At 6 p.m. solo acoustic singer-songwriter, Brad Byrd, takes the stage followed at 7 p.m. by international performers The Paul Madore Chorale. At 8 and 8:30 p.m. music turns to movement with performances from Jamie “La Damasquina” Belsito, flamenco dancer and Cecilia Raassina of Codify, modern dance.

At the opening reception remarks will be made by the Salem Culural Council and the city will announce the ArtBox winners.
