Thank you to all who assisted with Santa’s Arrival this past weekend: the City of Salem, Mayor Kimberley Driscoll, the Salem Fire Department, The Dejas, the Hawthorne Hotel, Bill Legault, Lindsey Roman, the Salem Chamber of Commerce, Marley Properties, Witch Tees, Museum Place Mall Businesses and 62 Restaurant and Wine Bar.

The holiday season continues with a festive atmosphere downtown Salem, great events fantastic shopping and dining. Mark your calendars for Dec. 16 Salem Open House Night!

Wishing you a very Happy Thanksgiving from Salem Main Streets!

Salem Holiday Happenings 2011 kicks off Friday, November 25! On Friday, get the whole family into the holiday spirit and join us in Lappin Park (at Essex and Washington St.) at 6:00 pm for the Annual Holiday Tree Lighting, a much-anticipated Salem tradition! From 6:00 – 7:00 p.m., sing along to your favorite holiday music performed by members of the talented, Paul Madore Chorale. Free hot chocolate will be provided by Gulu-Gulu Café. Mayor Driscoll will light the city’s 25-foot Holiday Tree at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Interested in participating in Black Friday but don’t want the chaos that comes with shopping at the big chain stores? Come to downtown Salem! With a wide variety of shops and restaurants, you’ll be able to check off items on your gift list for everyone in the family without the hassle of driving around a parking lot 20 times to no avail, or battling long store lines.

On Tuesday, November 22 the Salem Winter Farmers’ market will be held from 2 – 6 p.m. in the four buildings on Artists’ Row. We are holding the market on Tuesday instead of on the usual Thursday due to Thanksgiving. Support local farmers and local businesses when you do your holiday shopping. For fans of the summer Salem Farmers’ Market patiently (or impatiently) awaiting the arrival of the winter market, the wait is almost over! Salem Main Streets is happy to announce the Salem Winter Farmers’ Market opens this Thursday, November 10 in the Artists’ Row buildings between Front St. and Derby St. Shop the market for some of your favorite items and discover some new favorites. Some of our new vendors have gained recognition in the Boston Globe and Edible Boston!

The market will run from 2-6 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, 17 , (Tuesday, November 22), December 1, 8, 15 and 22. On November 10, join us for a reception in the Artists’ Row buildings at 6 p.m. to celebrate the start of the brand new Winter Market season!

At the market, you will find 12 of your favorite summer vendors as well as many new vendors including Shady Oaks Organics, selling their fabulous Oyster and Shiitake mushrooms as featured in the Boston Globe, and Deborah’s Kitchen, whose delicious and all natural, low sugar spreadable fruit and relish has been covered in the Lowell Sun and Edible Boston magazine.

The full market vendor list includes returning vendors Apothe.caring, Cape Cod Original, First Light Farm, Heaven’s Harvest Farm, Long Hill Orchard, Maitland Farm, Milk and Honey Green Grocer, Salem Soap Works, Soula’s Homemade Salsa, Still River Winery, Wally’s Vegetables and When Pigs Fly.

New vendors include A.k.a. Marvelicious, Capt. Pete’s Lobster Trap, Deborah’s Kitchen, Foxboro Cheese and Oake Knoll Ayrshires, Grace Organic, Judith A Fiske Handmade Cards, Seacoast Butters, Shady Oaks Organics, Valicenti Organico and Wunder Budder.

Support local agriculuture and feed your family with healthy, locally grown produce and other goods throughout the colder months at the Salem Winter Farmers’ Market.
