Salem is filled with excitement as Halloween approaches. Each weekend is filled with more activities than the last. The 21st Annual Motorcycle Ride to benefit Muscular Dystrophy Association has been rescheduled for THIS SUNDAY! The ride is expected to arrive in Salem somewhere around 1:30 p.m. (Route: Lafayette Street – Derby Street – Congress Street – Shetland Park)

There are many great ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN. This weekend starts off with Trick or Treating for children at Pickering Wharf Friday, October 23 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Parents with children in costume, ages 14 and under are encouraged to visit all stores in Pickering Wharf with balloons outside their doors. The Phoenix School is conducting their Annual Children’s Halloween Costume Parade and Party Saturday from 12 – 3 p.m. Registration for the parade starts at 11 a.m. on the Salem Common. In case of rain, the parade will be at The Phoenix School. For more information visit www.phoenixschoo.com. Salem Common Neighborhood Assocation is also sponsoring a Children’s Day both Saturday and Sunday on the Salem Common from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Haunted Happenings officially kicks off with the Salem Chamber of Commerce Grand Parade Thursday, October 1 at 6:30 p.m. The parade will start at Shetland Park at 6:30 p.m. this year honoring Former Police Chief St. Pierre as a “Local Hero.” It promises to be full of fantastic costumes, bands and floats. This year’s theme is “A Night at the Museum.” If you can’t make it downtown turn on SATV to watch local live coverage of the parade. Salem Main Streets will be a co-host for the parade coverage. Friday is Mayor’s Night Out in Salem with free admission for Salem residents to several area museums and trick or treating at select downtown businesses. Participating museums range from the Salem Witch Museum to the House of the Seven Gables. Trick or Treating with the Mayor begins at 5:30 p.m. at the East India Fountain on Essex Street.
