Have a Happy Halloween!!!

The witching hour is at hand! Actually every hour is a magical one today in Salem, MA. Our Information Booth is open on the corner of Washington and Essex Streets (across from the Bewitched Statue) where our Volunteer Ambassadors stand ready to answer questions and provide directions. Also, we urge you to make your next stop at the National Park Service Visitor Center (2 Liberty Street) where they have brochures, bathrooms, and more.

Speaking of more, what could you ask for? Temperatures expected in upper 50’s with partly cloudy (essential spooky look for Halloween) skies. Visit our haunted attractions, our diverse dining establishments, and all the shops along Essex, Front, Derby and other streets easily within a 15 minute walk of our Info Booth.

There will be music tonight starting at 4 p.m. at Washington and Federeral Street provided by 92.9 The Halloween Fireworks Finale will be at 10 p.m. (weather permitting) at Washington and Bridge Street. Don’t forget for your post-Halloween fun the Salem Winter Market which opens Thursday from 3 – 6 p.m. in Old Town Hall and First Friday November 2 with live music, discountes, and lots of great events.

Salem’s Haunted Happenings is in the home stretch and this weekend promises to be a blockbuster weekend! From a Disco Dance Party to a children’s trick-or-treat on Pickering Wharf there is fun for all ages.  Looking to go for a jog try The Devil’s Chase 6.66 Miler Saturday, October 27 at 8 a.m. There are great places to shop for the perfect Halloween accessory and gift items. There are fantastic restaurants to enjoy, museums to visit, night tours, costume balls and much more. You can even catch a Civil War Era style base ball game at 11 a.m. on the Salem Common.  For a full list of events visit hauntedhappenings.org. Evening Parties Saturday night in Salem include: Colonial Hall Costume Ball, Gulu-Gulu Costume Ball, Solstice of Souls Ball, Wicked Night on the Wharf, and the Disco Halloween Dance Party. On Pickering Wharf, Sunday, October 28 there is Trick-or-Treating starting at 5 p.m. and a children’s costume party at Finz at 6 p.m. Stop downtown Salem this weekend you will find something to do! Thursday, October 25 is the last outdoor Salem Farmers’ Market of the season from 3 – 7 in Derby Square. Many of your favorite vendors will be continuing with the market as it moves into Old Town Hall November 1. However, some will be ending their season with the market. This Thursday we will officially end our season with the annual Thriller performance by Dance Etc. This dancing zombie invasion has become a Farmers’ Market tradition. They will perform at 5:30 and 6:30. You won’t want to miss this!

Thursday is the last outdoor Salem Farmers’ Market of the season. Come downtown and support your local farmers and bid some of them farewell for the winter. About 20 of the Summer vendors will continue with the market into the winter market which opens in Old Town Hall Thursday, November 1 (the following week). The market Thursday, October 25 will feature Dance Etc. performance of Thriller as has become the traditional closing of the market.

Mark your calendar for a series of Welcome Back Salem Events Starting November 1…

Welcome Back Residents begins with the opening of the Salem Winter Farmers’ Market in Old Town Hall on November 1. The market will be open from 3 – 6 p.m. and offer over 20 vendors selling fresh fruits, vegetables, and specialty food items. For more information visit www.salemfarmersmarket.org.

Salem First Friday November 2 –  begins with glass blowing, book signings, music and much more. Salem First Friday is a year round program with businesses staying open until at least 8 p.m. in the downtown (including Pickering Wharf) and offer special events, discounts and promotions.   

On Friday, November 2 the Salem YMCA will be offering babysitting services for children 5 – 12 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Adults can enjoy First Friday events while their children will enjoy well supervised gym activities including gymnastics, sports, arts and crafts, swimming, and dancing!  Pizza and drinks are included.  Mention Salem First Friday and you save $5.00 off the $15.00 fee.  Space is limited so call ahead (978-740-9622) to save a spot.

Some of the free special events scheduled for November 2 include: Boston Bead Company holding a Pearl and Gem Trunk Show with a chance to win a $50 Door Prize, Seed Stitch has fabulous fashion inspired hats from Fiber Fashion Show, the Witch DR is holding an art show with Benjamin Stebbings glass blowing and refreshments, R & J Coin is holding a book signing with Timothy Kendall, author of The Salem Witch Trials Calendar, re-find women has a guest appearance by Rosalyn Englehardt from Beautiful Me with goodie bags and refreshments  and Front Street Coffeehouse will host DJ Radio Scotvoid.  Contact participating businesses to learn more about the details of the events and promotions which are subject to changes.
