June 1st through June 3rd, the 4th annual Salem Arts Festival will be in full swing. Come to this entirely FREE event hosted by Salem Main Streets. The opening reception is Friday evening. Located in Old Town Hall from 5 – 7 p.m. you can enjoy a juried art exhibit and live music and dance. On Saturday check out the juried street fair located on the Essex Street Pedestrian Mall near Old Town Hall and Collaborative Abstract Expressionism located next to Gulu Gulu in Lappin Park. Old Town Hall will continue to host the art exhibit and even more live comedy, music and performances. And if that isn’t enough, there will be live music, hoopdance and bellydance performances all afternoon on the East India Fountain Stage. Then on Sunday catch even more performances on the East India Fountain Stage from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and join a human chess game in Derby Square at noon. Wrap up the weekend at the Gulu Gulu Café starting at 5 p.m. with music, poetry, film and a Wrap Party. Downtown Salem is the perfect spot for your last minute holiday shopping. On Thursday, December 22 we will hold the last winter farmers’ market of the season. This is a perfect opportunity for shopping for your holiday entertaining – buy delicious produce, cheese, jams, cookies, pies and much more! There are lots of wonderful gift items such as local art. The market is open from 2 – 6 in Artists’ Row on Front Street. Santa Claus will be visiting the market from 3:30 – 5:30.

Downtown Salem has over 100 retail shops and 50 eating establishments.

There are only two more weeks left of the Salem Winter Farmers’ Market.

Stop by Thursday from 2 – 6 p.m. in Artists’ Row between Front Street and New Derby Street. Pick up fresh eggs, potatoes, kissing balls, local cheese, fresh lobsters and much more. Need to do some holiday decorating and start checking off items on your holiday shopping list? Make the Salem Winter Farmers’ Market your one-stop place to shop! Starting this Thursday, December 1, from 2 – 6 in Artists’ Row the Winter Market will sell wreaths, kissing balls and Christmas trees as well as the usual delicious produce and other local items.

For those on your holiday list, consider a gift basket of local market items- from cheese to spreadable fruit to specialty teas. Visit the Salem Arts Association building (across from the Lobster Shanty) for arts and crafts – they make unique and lovely gifts! A limited number of free tote bags will be distributed by market sponsor Salem Five Bank.

In the small building, Talent Conquest TV Show, presented by Debra Crosby and Mamadou Diop, will feature musical entertainment by winners Rosanne Casio and Rick Cardin. The two musicians will keep you entertained with their folk world vibe as you shop. Visit all four of the market buildings each Thursday in December from 2-6 pm!

On Tuesday, November 22 the Salem Winter Farmers’ market will be held from 2 – 6 p.m. in the four buildings on Artists’ Row. We are holding the market on Tuesday instead of on the usual Thursday due to Thanksgiving. Support local farmers and local businesses when you do your holiday shopping.
